For over half a century, the Chuckanut Foot Race has been a Northwest summer tradition. This iconic 7 mile point-to-point adventure connects the salty breeze of Bellingham Bay with the wild green of Larrabee State Park. It’s a course that’s both fast and scenic, delivering a mix of community spirit, trail magic, and summer celebration.
Starting in the historic Fairhaven district, runners cruise through town before climbing onto the legendary Interurban Trail, a route that threads along the Chuckanut Mountains with wide-open views of Chuckanut Bay and the San Juan Islands. This is more than just a run — it’s a celebration of summer running, strawberry shortcake, live music, and the joy of community.

Course Description
The Chuckanut Foot Race is a point-to-point trail journey beginning at Marine Park in Fairhaven and finishing at Larrabee State Park, Washington’s oldest state park. After about half a mile of paved running through the historic Fairhaven district, runners transition to the Interurban Trail, a wide and rolling path through the Chuckanut Mountains. Along the way, expect sweeping views of Chuckanut Bay, glimpses of the San Juan Islands, and forest stretches filled with Pacific Northwest charm.
For 2025, due to construction along the Interurban Trail, the course has been re-routed. After 10th Street, runners will detour onto Donovan Avenue and Fairhaven Parkway before rejoining the Interurban at 20th Street. These sections will be managed by certified flaggers, ensuring safe passage across busy intersections.

Logistics
The nearest airport is Bellingham International Airport, located about 20 minutes by car from the start. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is approximately 2 hours away.

Parking
There is no race day parking available at Marine Park. Parking in Fairhaven is limited and carpooling is strongly encouraged. Parking at Larrabee State Park is also limited and requires a Discover Pass.

Discounted lodging is available through partner hotels in Bellingham. Reservations must be made by June 20, 2025. Call 360.746.6844 for booking.
Aid Stations
There is 1 aid station located at the halfway point on the Interurban Trail. Runners can expect water and light snacks to keep them fueled through the back half of the race.
Race Requirements
The Chuckanut Foot Race is open to all runners and walkers. No prior trail running experience is required, but participants should be prepared for a 7 mile point-to-point course with some elevation change and trail terrain.

Policies
Cancelations & Deferrals
Entry fees are non-refundable for any reason. Due to limited race capacity, runners unable to attend should email the race directors so their spot may be offered to someone on the wait list.
Kids
Kids are welcome to participate. Reduced entry fees are available for runners 12 and under. The 7M course is the only option offered, and parents should use their discretion in allowing children to run.
Crew, Pacers & Spectators
Spectators are welcome at both the start and finish areas. Parking is limited, so carpooling is strongly encouraged. A Discover Pass is required at Larrabee State Park. Visitors should remain clear of the trail during the race and follow all volunteer and race staff directions.
Volunteers
Volunteers are welcomed and essential for the Chuckanut Foot Race. Opportunities include course marshaling, aid station support, and finish line assistance. To volunteer, contact ali.delabruere@gbrc.net.
Charity & Beneficiary
The Chuckanut Foot Race is organized by the Greater Bellingham Running Club, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports local running events, community programs, and youth initiatives. Proceeds from the race help fund GBRC’s community mission.
Land Acknowledgement
The Chuckanut Foot Race takes place on the traditional lands of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the Lummi Nation and Nooksack Tribe, who have lived in and cared for these lands and waters since time immemorial.
