A forested retreat just outside Seattle, with flat trails and hidden beauty perfect for runners of all levels

Overview

Soaring Eagle Trail Run offers a quick escape from the bustle of the city into the calm of Sammamish’s expansive forest trails. With wide paths like the Pipeline Trail and winding singletrack through mossy woods, the race welcomes both new and experienced trail runners. The event is family-friendly, with 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon options and a free kids’ race.

This is one of Evergreen Trail Runs’ more accessible events, with relatively flat terrain and beginner-friendly vibes. But don’t let that fool you; large roots and occasional puddles still add some playful challenges.

Course Description

All races start out on the wide, welcoming Pipeline Trail, a perfect warm-up stretch before the courses diverge. The 5K runners turn back toward the finish through forested trails, while the 10K loop showcases the park’s best singletrack, winding past creeks and mossy trees. The Half Marathon doubles the 10K loop, giving runners twice the beauty, twice the challenge, and twice the fun.

Expect well-graded trails with minimal elevation gain, but don’t get too comfortable — the roots and puddles will keep you on your toes. The forest here is alive with sound and color, from birds darting overhead to ferns brushing your legs. You’ll share the trail with hikers, bikers, and even horses, which adds to the atmosphere of a truly shared wild space.

About

Evergreen Trail Runs

Evergreen Trail Runs is a Pacific Northwest-based trail racing organization dedicated to creating inclusive, community-oriented events across Western Washington. Founded in 2010 by Roger Michel and Yumay Chang, Evergreen began with a vision to connect runners with the region’s rich network of trails. Now a part of Orca Running, Evergreen Trail Runs continues to thrive under the leadership of Co-Owners Katie Warren, Porter Bratten, and Ashley Lee.

What sets Evergreen apart is its approachable and friendly atmosphere, along with its deep respect for the natural environment. The crew behind the scenes are mountain lovers and outdoor enthusiasts who bring that passion to every event—from race logistics and course setup to volunteer coordination and marketing. The team is a tight-knit group of runners, adventurers, and professionals who live and breathe the outdoors, including avalanche forecasters, endurance athletes, and social media storytellers.

Evergreen Trail Runs is more than just a race organizer—it’s a movement rooted in stewardship, adventure, and joy on the trails. Runners show up not just to race, but to be part of something bigger: a trail-loving, mountain-moving, environmentally conscious community.
