Founded in 1986, the Ouray Trail Group is a volunteer-powered non-profit dedicated to preserving and maintaining the hiking trails of the Ouray area. Working hand-in-hand with the U.S. Forest Service, OTG protects both the natural beauty of the San Juan Mountains and the historic remnants of the 19th Century Mining Era trails.
Through trail restoration, maintenance, signage, mapping, and guided stewardship events, OTG empowers volunteers and hikers to take an active role in safeguarding these landscapes. Our hiking guides, maps, and educational resources help visitors explore the area safely and responsibly while supporting ongoing trail preservation efforts.
Whether you’re a seasoned hiker, a local volunteer, or a visitor seeking adventure, the Ouray Trail Group offers the tools and opportunities to enjoy, protect, and sustain these remarkable trails for generations to come.
