Overview
Outdoor Alliance is the only U.S. nonprofit that unites the voices of outdoor enthusiasts to conserve public lands and protect the human-powered recreation experience. As a coalition of nine leading organizations—including American Whitewater, Access Fund, IMBA, Winter Wildlands Alliance, The Mountaineers, Surfrider Foundation, and others—Outdoor Alliance combines grassroots passion with policy expertise to create meaningful change.
For more than a decade, Outdoor Alliance has worked to ensure trails, mountains, rivers, and coastlines remain open, protected, and accessible for future generations. Their impact includes protecting 40 million acres of public land, securing over $5 billion in federal funding for the outdoors, and mobilizing more than 100,000 outdoor enthusiasts into engaged advocates.
Philosophy
Outdoor Alliance believes that outdoor places matter—not only for clean air, clean water, and habitat, but also for the human-powered experiences they make possible. Conservation is strongest when rooted in personal connection to place, and outdoor recreation is one of the most powerful ways to build that connection.
Their work is guided by five core values:
Outdoor Places Matter — The intrinsic and social value of outdoor spaces must be protected.
Connection Drives Care — When we climb, paddle, hike, or ski, we become stewards of the land and water.
United We Are Stronger — A collective voice makes a greater impact than any one group alone.
Public Lands Belong to Everyone — These places are a shared responsibility and inheritance.
There’s Room for Everyone — Conservation must be inclusive, ensuring diverse perspectives help shape the future of public lands.
Through this lens, Outdoor Alliance bridges recreation and policy, mobilizing outdoor communities to safeguard the places we love.
