Overview
The Trail Mix Fund was created to break down barriers in trail racing and make the sport more accessible for everyone. What started in 2020 with Go Beyond Racing quietly waiving registration fees for runners in need quickly grew into a movement—one powered by generosity from the trail community itself.
By 2021, the demand and support were so strong that the Trail Mix Fund became its own nonprofit, dedicated to covering race registration fees for under-served and under-represented runners. Today, the Fund continues to expand, partnering with more race organizations and providing up to $500 toward entry fees. The goal is simple: help more runners reach the starting line and feel at home in the trail running community.
Philosophy
Trail running is often seen as an accessible sport—“all you need is a pair of shoes.” But the truth is, financial barriers, cultural gaps, and feelings of exclusion can keep many from ever signing up for their first race. The Trail Mix Fund exists to change that.
We believe the trails belong to everyone. By removing one of the biggest hurdles—registration fees—we open the door a little wider for BIPOC runners, LGBTQ+ runners, and anyone who might feel like they don’t belong. While fee assistance alone won’t solve every challenge, it’s a meaningful first step toward creating a more diverse, inclusive, and welcoming trail community.
