Climb hard, descend fast on Dog Mountain

Overview

The Ruff is a brutal yet breathtaking 7-mile mountain race up Dog Mountain in the stunning Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The course challenges runners with a relentless 3,000-foot climb in just 3 miles before sending them flying down 4 miles of technical trail to the finish. With panoramic views of the Columbia River, Mt. Hood, and Mt. St. Helens, this race is as close to a Colorado-style mountain race as you’ll find in the Pacific Northwest.

Elevated Trail Racing

Elevated Trail Racing offers a curated set of rugged, scenic trail races in the Pacific Northwest, geared toward runners who seek both elevation gain and personal growth. Founded and directed by Devin Van Scoy, a seasoned coach and competitive trail runner, the series is more than just a collection of races—it’s a community-driven experience that blends challenging courses with coaching support and a passion for the trails.

Their events, like Oakridge Triple Summit, The Ruff, and Storm the Castle, are known for their vertical profiles, wild terrain, and memorable experiences. Whether you’re chasing your first summit or your fiftieth, these races are designed to elevate both your performance and your perspective. Devin also offers personalized coaching, and athletes who train with him get free entry to all Elevated Trail races.
