A Halloween-weekend desert party where costumes, canyon glow, and fast loops collide
Overview
Javelina Jundred turns McDowell Mountain Regional Park into a neon desert carnival. Five buttery-runnable loops weave through saguaros and sandy washes with sunrise views and a sunset disco vibe that keeps spirits high when the miles get long. Costumes are encouraged, cheering is loud, and the energy at Jeadquarters feels like a festival with timing mats. Beyond the party, this is a serious race with a quick course profile, a deep field, and big goals. The 100 Mile is a 2026 Western States qualifier and a Golden Ticket race, so you’ll toe the line with contenders and community side by side.

Course Description
The course starts and finishes at Four Peaks Staging Area, known as Javelina Jeadquarters. Expect smooth desert singletrack, firm jeep road, sandy washes, and short punchy climbs that reward consistent pacing. You’ll flow through Shallmo Wash, roll along the Pemberton Trail, pass granite boulders near Jackass Junction, then cruise gradual descents back toward Jeadquarters. Heat and exposure can be factors by day, and the night brings crisp, starry miles that favor steady runners with good lighting.

Logistics
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the major gateway about 35 miles from the park and is the best choice for most travelers. Scottsdale and Fountain Hills offer the closest lodging and dining to Jeadquarters, with convenient access to the park entrance. Park entry fees apply to vehicles entering McDowell Mountain Regional Park.
Driving Directions
Parking
Event parking uses designated lots inside the park with entry gate operations beginning early on race morning. Shuttles are used for select volunteer and remote aid-station access. Crew canopy parking and staging follow race signage and staff direction on site. Park shuttles and runner drop-off details are published with race-week updates. Maricopa County Parks day-use entry fees apply to crew and spectators. Annual passes are accepted.
Lodging
Camping options include tent and RV areas coordinated through the race and park where available. Hotel blocks and recommendations are provided via the event site and expo communications. Nearby lodging is available in Fountain Hills and Scottsdale.
Aid Stations
Four aid stations serve each loop with classic ultra fare and hot food at night. The sequence each loop is Jeadquarters at the start and finish, then Coyote Camp, Jackass Junction, and Rattlesnake Ranch. Approximate segmenting per loop is Jeadquarters to Coyote Camp about 4 miles, to Jackass Junction about 6.5 miles more, to Rattlesnake Ranch about 5.2 miles more, then back to Jeadquarters via Escondido on loop one and via Pemberton and Cinch on later loops. Drop bags are available at Jeadquarters and Jackass Junction.
Race Requirements
This is a looped desert trail race with heat exposure by day and night running after sunset. Runners are responsible for personal hydration systems due to the event’s cupless policy and should plan lighting for evening and overnight hours.

Qualifying Races
No formal qualifying race is required to enter, but completing the 100 Mile in under 30 hours qualifies you for the 2026 Western States lottery, and top finishers earn Golden Tickets.
Mandatory Gear
Night running lights are strongly recommended for all runners expected to be on course after dusk. Carry sufficient hydration given the cupless policy and desert conditions. Reflective or high-visibility elements are recommended for night segments.

Dogs
For runner and wildlife safety, pets are not permitted on course. Spectator areas within the park follow Maricopa County Parks rules, and pets, if present, must remain leashed and out of aid station service areas.
Kids
Kids may enjoy spectating at Jeadquarters with adult supervision. Youth race opportunities vary by year and are posted on the race site. There are no formal youth distances associated with the main event distances.
Crew, Pacers & Spectators
Crew canopy reservations are required for dedicated space at Jeadquarters and sold out for 2025. Shared community areas are available. Pacers must wear pacer bibs and follow all race rules. One pacer at a time is allowed, on foot only, with no muling. Pacers are allowed for the 100 Mile and are allowed for the 100K after two loops or at sunset when leaving Jeadquarters at 5:00PM or later. Visitors should plan for park entry fees and use shuttles where provided.
