Overview
Coast Mountain Trail Running (CMTR) produces some of British Columbia’s most beloved and challenging trail races. Founded by Gary Robbins and Geoff Langford, CMTR blends rugged coastal terrain with top-tier race organization, fostering a deeply loyal community of trail runners across all ability levels. Their events range from winter snowshoe and multisport races to legendary ultras like the Squamish 50 and Diez Vista 50K.
Each race reflects CMTR’s commitment to sustainability, inclusivity, and community stewardship. They operate as a carbon-neutral company (aiming to go carbon-negative), donate $5–$10 per race entry to local search and rescue and trail organizations, and plant one tree per runner through an Indigenous-led reforestation partnership. To date, they’ve donated over $465,000 and planted more than 16,000 trees.
From technical alpine climbs to beginner-friendly non-technical trail half marathons, CMTR’s event calendar offers something for everyone. With an energetic volunteer crew, thoughtfully marked courses, and a commitment to local impact, these races are more than just events, they’re celebrations of community and the wild beauty of BC’s backcountry.
