Rise from the ashes and conquer the blast zone backcountry

Rise from the ashes and conquer the blast zone backcountry

Overview

Step into one of the most dramatic landscapes in the Pacific Northwest, where trails weave through the blast zone of Mount St. Helens. Backcountry Rise is more than a race—it is a journey through resilience and raw beauty. Imagine running past sapphire lakes, across ridgelines with sweeping views of the Cascade volcanoes, and through valleys bursting with wildflowers.

The race weekend features three distances: the epic 50K and Half Marathon on Saturday and the adventurous 20 miler on Sunday. Each course offers something unique, from the classic Coldwater Lake loop to big climbs and thrilling descents that test your grit and reward you with jaw-dropping scenery. Wildlife sightings are common—mountain goats, elk, and soaring raptors may be your trail companions. Whether you run, crew, or cheer from the sidelines, this race delivers a full weekend of community, celebration, and mountain adventure.
